Dr. Eugen Simion Dragoman’s 90th birthday!

“Now that I’ve told you my life story, what do you think of the fact that I turned 90, is it a lot or a little?” …asked doctor Eugen Simion Dragoman atthe end of his speech adressed to his family and friends from Munich andSibiu. There were two anniversary parties filled with joy and emotion, one in he adoptive town, Munich, the other in the home town, Sibiu, both with a charitable purpose. Dr. Eugen Dragoman decided, on the eve of turning 90years of age, to invite his great family and good friends with the urge not to offer him presents, but to donate something to the children under the care of the Humanitarian Association Alexandra Nanu (AUAN), in order for them, by means of education, to build a better future for themselves.

Dr. Eugen Dragoman’s father was a teacher in Nocrich and he encouraged hi sson to study medicine in Cluj. Times were not very peaceful, because history faced a terrible, unprecented war. World War II found the Transylvanian students cheering their king’s name and protecting their national values.

Amongst them was Eugen Dragoman, who, in his 6 university years, was forced to contend with adverse forces for his noble ideals. When things settled down, he started a family in Sibiu, where he worked as an orthopedist surgeon, and he started building a house. He had a boy and a girl and life followed its path qpeacefully. It didn’t last long, though, because, at 5 years of age, Dr. Dragoman’s older son went to heaven, being striked by a terrible disease, in front of which medicine proved to be helpless. His unshaken faith helped him overcome this incommensurable pain and, after many years of hard work, the good God made him worthy of finishing his family home. Afterwards, they all went to visit friends in Germany, not presuming that this country would become their good host for many years to come. Even now, when he regained his house in Sibiu after a 20-year trial, Dr. Dragoman commutes between Sibiu and Munich.

His destiny and young Alexandra Nanu’s destiny, in memory of whom the Humanitarian Association Alexandra Nanu (AUAN) was founded, merged at this moment, a few years away from when one of them was helping those in need here on Earth and the other one went to watch over from Heaven and to spread hope whenever we looked up at the stars. What do they have in common? The love of fellow men and love originates in pure conscience and sincere faith (Philistines, 1:4).

The „Humanitarian Association Alexandra Nanu“ wishes Dr. Eugen Dragoman a happy birthday filled with health and joys around the loved ones and thanks him for the substantial donations that he raised.
